Whistling Ducks

Widespread Waterfowl

Departing Argentina, it seems appropriate to show a bird that occurs both in South America and North America, but not as cross-continental migrants.

Fulvous Whistling Ducks are amazingly cosmopolitan – not only in the Americas, but they also inhabit a large swath of Africa and parts of the Indian subcontinent.

Whistling ducks were previously named tree ducks, but Fulvous rarely perch in trees. In the US they often nest in rice fields.
