Three Pairs of Teal on the Road - It must be the peak of nest initiation
Females searching for an upland nesting site like to land in an open spot that has no predators. Buffalo wallows may have been the best spots for eons, but now it is roads.
It is even better if someone else has landed first and shown it is safe. Every dabbler pair wants someone else to take the risk of walking into the grass where predators lurk.
Nest sites are not defended – just the water where momma feeds.
