Three days of eiders

These are Spectacled Eiders. They nest in Alaska and Siberia. The Alaska population has declined dramatically, so the Service listed them as threatened.

Meanwhile the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) lists them as a species of least concern because they are still abundant in Russia.

Until only about 25 years ago the wintering area - openings in the Bering Sea – was unknown.
