Peas - cocaine for ducks

Mallards and Pintails are addicted to field peas (second picture). This field had well over 2,000 birds in it this evening

Peas are harvested before most other crops, so the fields are attractive early and the peas are easy to find.

However, I also think peas are the number one preferred waste agricultural food in the PPR in fall.

Note that the males are all in basic (eclipse) plumage.
