Nova Scotia Hunters Celebrate Expanded Sunday Hunting Opportunities
Delta Waterfowl championed a beneficial change to add 11 days to the duck season
PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, MANITOBA — Waterfowl hunters in Nova Scotia celebrated their first year with robust Sunday hunting opportunities this past season as the province expanded Sunday hunting from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31. This change, which has been in the works for more than a decade, was championed by the members, volunteers, and staff of Delta Waterfowl.
Beginning in 2015, Nova Scotia provided two Sundays of hunting. Jim Fisher, Delta’s vice president of Canadian policy, has been a persistent advocate for further expansion of Sunday hunting.
“Seven-day hunting is central to Delta’s mission, and it directly benefits hunters by expanding the time they can share with friends and family in a duck blind,” Fisher said.
Bob White, Delta volunteer chair for the Truro & Colchester chapter, relies on the weekend for waterfowl hunting.
“As with most people I work Monday to Friday, and I also work every third Saturday, which limits my hunting time,” White said. “Opening up Sunday hunting gives me the opportunity to enjoy something I love and look forward to doing.”
Calvin d’Entremont, chair of the Southwest Delta chapter added, “I always ask fellow hunters if they benefited from Sunday hunting and the answer is always a positive one. People have the choice to hunt on Sundays or not to hunt on Sundays. It’s definitely been a positive experience for our area in Nova Scotia.”
Delta has continually advocated for expanded hunting opportunities in Canada and the United States to ensure waterfowl hunters can maximize their time in the field.
