Delta Waterfowl Supports Oklahoma Legislation to Provide Structure to Guiding and Outfitting
Bill to create better guardrails to manage waterfowl guiding passes Senate
BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA — Delta Waterfowl supports the passage of Oklahoma Senate Bill 2095, which would require hunting guides and outfitters to possess a guide license and obtain landowner permission before guiding on private property. The bill now moves to the Oklahoma House for consideration.
“We appreciate Sen. Spencer Kern’s hard work on this legislation to provide structure and clarity on waterfowl guiding operations in Oklahoma,” said Jeff Wardlaw, Delta Waterfowl’s senior manager of government affairs for the Mississippi and Central flyways. “This legislation protects private landowners and ensures there are guidelines around operating guiding operations.”
It is illegal to guide on public lands in Oklahoma. Requiring guides and outfitters to purchase and carry a guide license would provide an additional way to enforce the law. Additionally, requiring guides to have written permission before taking clients on private land would ensure landowners understand that a commercial activity is taking place on their properties, while also protecting clients from unknowingly trespassing.
Delta staff will continue to monitor SB2095 as it moves to the House of Representatives and plans to testify in support of the bill during committee hearings.
