Delta Waterfowl’s Fall Issue Forecasts Duck Flight, Reveals Delta’s Plan to Restore the Migration

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA — “The ducks just don’t migrate like they used to,” is a phrase that’s been uttered frequently in recent seasons. You may have even said it yourself. And at Delta Waterfowl, we hear you: “Duck Distribution” has changed, but The Duck Hunters OrganizationTM has embarked on the beginnings of an ambitious new plan to fix it.

In the Fall 2025 Issue of Delta Waterfowl magazine, communications director Bill Miller reveals how the bold, multifaceted strategy will work. And why Delta is uniquely positioned to spearhead this effort, with an ultimate goal of returning ducks—including the 1 million that Delta will annually produce in the coming years—to their southern U.S. strongholds.

Delta’s Fall Issue also signals that hunting season is upon us! Inside you’ll find cutting-edge analysis of the 2025 Waterfowl Population Status Report, plus an in-depth forecast of this year’s duck and goose fall flights across all four flyways.

The hunting-packed issue includes the feature story, “Names on the Wind,” a thought-provoking piece by Joe Sigurdson. The author was invited by Alaska Natives to hunt scoters while working as a teacher in their village—this becomes the setting for a reckoning with identity and belonging.

Readers are then invited to the opposite end of the continent to “The Duck Hunter’s Peninsula”—Pennsylvania’s Presque Isle. Find out why this small piece of land jutting out into Lake Erie holds a special place in Atlantic Flyway lore.

A photo feature by the renowned Gary Kramer reveals why mallards are “Not Just Ducks.” And finally, field editor Brian Lovett’s guide, “Timeless Tactics for Public Land,” explores grandpa’s duck hunting methods—your old man’s father may not have had machined calls or electric decoys, but his tricks can still outsmart the competition.

As always, the Fall Issue carries a full slate of informative and entertaining columns such as Duck Dogs, Shotgunning, Strategies, Fowling Fundamentals, and Last Pass to help you get the most from your waterfowl season.

The only way to receive Delta Waterfowl magazine is to join The Duck Hunters OrganizationTM. If you are a member, thank you for your support. The Fall Issue will arrive soon!
