Communications Intern
Location of Work: Remotely in the USA or Canada
Start Date: End of May / early June through mid-August
40 hours per week for 11 weeks, compensation will be $500/week
JOB SUMMARY
Delta Waterfowl seeks a talented and motivated intern to assist in its communications efforts. The Delta Waterfowl communications internship is a unique opportunity to develop skills in print and online media, while promoting Delta’s mission to use science-based solutions to produce ducks, conserve prairie wetlands, and ensure the future of waterfowl hunting.
Delta’s communications intern will assist the communications team in delivering outstanding written communications for Delta’s members, volunteers, and donors, as well as the public. The communications intern will collaborate on team objectives related to Delta’s hunting advocacy, habitat conservation, duck production, and research programs.
Successful completion of this internship could potentially lead to a staff position on the Delta Waterfowl communications team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assist with and/or write media releases promoting Delta’s mission and publicizing the organization’s accomplishments.
2. Contribute to Delta’s award-winning membership magazine, including news pieces, hunting gear reviews, and features.
3. Deliver stories and photography related to Delta’s duck production and research programs for Delta’s magazine and website.
4. Assist in planning, writing, and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters.
5. Contribute to website, including dispatches from local Delta chapters, relevant waterfowl-related news, general hunting pieces and Delta program updates.
6. Manage editorial calendars.
7. Collaborate with staff on new communications ideas, strategies, and tools.
8. Willingness and ability to travel to report on stories and to attend Delta Waterfowl Expo.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Completed or be working toward a college degree in journalism, communications, English (writing) or a related field.
2. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word; proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop a plus.
3. Possess excellent writing skills. Understanding of AP Style a significant plus.
4. Basic photography skills.
5. Previous experience in college/community journalism or communications highly desired.
6. Ability to work well independently and within a team.
7. Passion for the wildlife and habitat conservation, previous study and hunting of waterfowl highly desired.
8. Potential travel for events, field experience, etc.
